In April 2023, violent conflict erupted across Sudan. Millions were forced from their homes overnight. Communities once thriving in Khartoum, Darfur, Gezira, and the Red Sea states became scenes of displacement and devastation.

Zakat Foundation of America responded immediately by mobilizing emergency relief, food, hygiene, and medical relief for families trapped by conflict, floods, and economic collapse.

Our Reach: July 2023 – September 2025

Through sustained humanitarian operations, we reached 94,352 Sudanese beneficiaries across multiple states and refugee settings:

  • 66,970 people supported with food assistance

  • 26,860 people aided with core relief and hygiene items

  • 4,300 people reached through healthcare interventions

Feeding Hope: Emergency Meals and Food Packages

When newly displaced families arrived in camps around Wad Madani, our team launched immediate feeding centers and water-sanitation projects in 20 (internally displaced persons) IDP camps, which helped 7,000 people.

In Shandi (River Nile State), we distributed 200 food packages reaching 1,440 beneficiaries, a rapid, lifesaving intervention carried out under severe conditions.

Restoring Dignity: Core Relief Items

Between January to June 2024, we partnered in Port Sudan and Red Sea State to deliver 1,000 Core Relief Item (CRI kits) serving roughly 5,000 individuals displaced in makeshift shelters.

Each kit provided plastic sheeting, blankets and sleeping mats, kitchen sets and mosquito nets and solar lights. These essentials didn’t just meet needs; they restored dignity and safety to families enduring the harshest conditions.

Scaling Up: Nationwide Impact

As the conflict intensified, we scaled our operations accordingly. In 2024, 2,000 food packages nourished 12,000 beneficiaries and 3,000 hygiene packages assisted 15,000 beneficiaries. In 2025, we sponsored 75 orphans, fed 8,000 in Ramadan with 1,000 food packages and iftar meals, and distributed meat packages during Udhiyah season to 292 families which provided meat to 4,380 beneficiaries.

Health for the Displaced

In Adré, Chad, we established a health clinic serving 4.300 refugees. Over 10 trained medical staff members conducted 1,100 medical consultations per month while offering full treatment coverage for malaria, diarrheal, and respiratory infections.

When Floods Follow Conflict

In September 2025, floods struck Jabal Marra, Central Darfur. We mobilized again, delivering cooking utensils, blankets, and food packages to 800 households, roughly 4,000 people, within days.

Conflict, then flood. Displacement, then disease. Every time Zakat Foundation of America was there to help.

A Call to Humanitarian Action

Sudan’s crisis is far from over. Relief must evolve into recovery. We urge our partners, donors, and policy leaders to join us in sustaining long-term support for displaced Sudanese families.

Every warm meal, every blanket, every restored clinic is not just relief, it’s hope rebuilt.
