25 Years of Service, 250 Years of America: Standing with Communities Across Our Nation

As the United States marks 250 years of independence, Zakat Foundation of America marks 25 years of something just as enduring: a promise to show up. 

For a quarter century, we have stood alongside Americans in their hardest moments. We have been there not as distant observers, but as neighbors: delivering aid, restoring dignity, and walking with communities on the long road from crisis to recovery. 

Across seven regional offices and 12 programs, 128 dedicated staff members bring that commitment to life every day. Their work is locally grounded, culturally informed, and designed not just for the moment of crisis, but for what comes after. 

Answering the Call When Disaster Strikes

When major disasters have struck American communities, our national Emergency Relief team has been among the first to arrive. From Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to the California Wildfires of recent years, from Hurricane Harvey to Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, we have mobilized rapidly. 

The numbers behind that response tell a story of extraordinary reach: 

• 2,623,809 lives impacted through rapid, compassionate disaster response 

• 1,602,633 people supported with life-saving health services 

• 411,744 nourished through food security programs 

• 336,721 reached through emergency relief during crises 

• 119,762 supported through refugee assistance and protection 

• 75,223 empowered through education and opportunity 

Behind every one of those numbers is a face, a name, a family whose life was changed by the generosity of people who believed that no one should face crisis alone. 

A Shared Legacy of Service

America was built on the idea that neighbors show up, that the vulnerable are not forgotten, and that out of hardship, resilience can grow. Zakat Foundation of America has spent 25 years living that idea. 

As this nation reflects on 250 years of history and all that has been built, lost, and rebuilt across this land, we are proud to count ourselves among the first responders, those who run towards the needs of our neighbors rather than away from it.
