Zakat Foundation of America is proud to announce the launch of its Volunteer Honors Program, a new initiative designed to recognize, celebrate, and elevate community service, volunteerism, and humanitarian impact across the United States.
Building on over 15 years of experience recognizing volunteers through national award programs, this new initiative introduces a more inclusive and expanded system of recognition. The program honors volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, with the program initiated in California, Delaware, Illinois, New Jersey, and North Carolina, while also welcoming broader community service contributions.
At its core, the Volunteer Honors Program reflects a simple belief: volunteer service strengthens communities, transforms lives, and creates lasting hope.
Recognizing the Power of Volunteer Service
The Volunteer Honors Program was created to recognize both the quantity and quality of volunteer hours, as well as the broader impact volunteers make in their communities. It is designed to highlight not just participation, but leadership, consistency, and meaningful contribution.
A Volunteer Recognition Program for All Ages
The program is structured to ensure that volunteer recognition is accessible, inclusive, and meaningful across all age groups.
Young volunteers aged 5–10 are introduced to service through the Junior Heroes program, which encourages early engagement in community service and acts of kindness. As they grow, youth aged 11–17 are recognized through leadership-based awards that highlight increasing levels of responsibility and impact.
Adult volunteers (18+) are honored for sustained community involvement, humanitarian service, and long-term volunteer commitment.
Across all categories, the program emphasizes the importance of building a lifelong culture of service and civic engagement.
Zakat Foundation of America Volunteers and Community Service Recognition
A key feature of the Volunteer Honors Program is its dual recognition structure.
Volunteers who serve directly with Zakat Foundation of America are eligible for ZF Core Awards, which recognize deeper engagement and verified volunteer hours. In addition, Community Awards are open to individuals who serve in schools, mosques, nonprofits, and local organizations outside of Zakat Foundation of America.
This approach ensures that all forms of volunteer work and community service are acknowledged and appreciated.
Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony
The highlight of the Volunteer Honors Program is the annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony, taking place each April.
This special event brings together volunteers from across participating states to celebrate their dedication, service, and impact. Award recipients will be publicly recognized and honored for their contributions to humanitarian work, community service, and volunteer leadership.
How to Apply for the Volunteer Honors Program
Volunteers will be able to apply through the upcoming Zakat Foundation Volunteer Portal, where they can submit volunteer hours, upload supporting documentation, and select their award category.
Applications will be reviewed based on verified service hours and eligibility criteria. Selected volunteers will be invited to participate in the annual recognition ceremony.
