Fareed and his wife have two daughters and two sons. They traveled miles - crossing forests - to save their lives.
Fareed, 28, and his family are refugees from Burma staying at refugee camps in Hyderabad, India. They continue to struggle despite escaping religious persecution in their home country. Fareed earns between $1.47 and $2.94 for a day’s work, but he isn’t able to find continuous work, often being forced to settle for working only three to four days a week.
He struggles to feed his wife and children. During the holy month of Ramadan, Zakat Foundation of America volunteers visited their home and saw just how unfortunate this family’s situation is.
Zakat Foundation of America gave Fareed’s family a Ramadan food package. It consisted of: 25 kilograms of rice, 5 liters of oil, 10 kg of wheat flour, 2 kg of Dal, 5 kg of sugar, 1 kg of ghee, 1 kg of dates, 1 kg of Vermicelli (pasta), and half a kilogram of tea powder.
The family was able to happily enjoy full, healthy and hygienic meals during Ramadan. Fareed was also able to provide food to his parents, who also live with him.
He said he will never forget the support he got from Zakat Foundation of America.
“I will be wholeheartedly praying for the donors,” Fareed said. “May Allah (SWT) reward them with more blessings.”
