During this blessed month of Ramadan, Zakat Foundation of America is thankful for the opportunity to help families in various countries across the world. Many families are struggling to find food for breaking their fast, whether it be due to being in the midst of a war zone or experiencing drought, famine, natural or manmade disaster, etc. Zakat Foundation of America is serving over 40 countries, including Palestine, Jordan, Turkey, Kenya, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Burkina Faso, and is providing at least six million meals during Ramadan. With goals of having a lasting impact on the lives of these families, Zakat Foundation of America hopes that the families receiving food packages will have enough food for the duration of the holy month.
One of the main destinations for Zakat Foundation of America’s Ramadan Food Packages is Palestine. The 2014 conflict in Gaza left many people with little access to the basic necessities of life and a mountain of hardships that continue to add to their struggles. With electricity outages, shops are unable to run properly, making food more difficult to attain, which is part of what makes packages of food so vital to areas like Gaza and the West Bank.
A Zakat Foundation of America representative who completed a distribution in Palestine recently wrote to us about a very grateful recipient:
This package was one of the best. It included cooking oil, sugar, flour, lentil beans, freak (split wheat), cans of meat and tuna, 4 packs of spaghetti noodles and 4 packs of other noodles for soup, big pack of soup, package of dried milk, halwa (type of sweet), and other items…The lady whom we opened the box for was so grateful and said she was blessed on receiving the package and how it would help her and her family of 10. She has one son and eight daughters, ages ranging from 5 to 20 and also her husband who is unable to work. I asked her if this package would really make a difference for her and her family and if it would last. Her reply, ‘This package will last me until even after Ramadan, I will stretch it because I have to.’
As you have your Iftar with a variety of food around the table, think of those who don’t have anything as simple as dates with which to break their fast. Any donation will make a difference and help serve less fortunate Muslim families. Your donation of $60 can feed an average family of six for the whole month of Ramadan, making a significant impact on their lives and InshaAllah rewards for you.
