Nine-year-old Sahr has seen more, and suffered more than a young girl ought to. The child and her family live in Akkar, Lebanon, having fled from the ongoing conflict in Syria.

When Sahr went to the Zakat Foundation of America clinic in Akkar she had been in pain for quite a while, but the cause of her pain was not the violence in her country.

"Many many nights we have gone to bed without eating any dinner because our house is empty from food,” she confessed.

"I have been suffering terribly from pain in my stomach since many months ago,” she said. “But I couldn't tell my parents because I know that they don't have money to treat me, so I lived with the pain."

Zakat Foundation of America doctor diagnosed her with an ulcer caused by the many months she has lived with hunger and stress. They provided her with free medications, which she received saying gratefully, "Alhamdulillah I shall feel no pain from now on."

Unfortunately the stress of living as a refugee has not ended yet for Sahr and her family. When asked about their home in Syria, she lamented, “Wallah (I swear by God) we don't know if it is still standing or destroyed, we know nothing!"

For as long as the Syrian conflict lasts, Zakat Foundation of America is committed to providing medical, food, housing and other humanitarian aid to the innocent victims whose lives have been turned upside down since the beginning of the fighting two and a half years ago. Your generous donation keeps the needed supplies flowing to young and old, refugees and internally displaced Syrians.
