Zakat Foundation of America has organized transportation for dozens of community members to attend the funeral of the legendary Muhammad Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay, in Louisville, Kentucky. An estimated 15,000 people from around the world are expected to descend on the southern city to attend the heavyweight’s memorial and janaza (Islamic funeral) to pay their last respects, which will take place June 9th and 10th.
Muhammad Ali not only succeeded in the boxing ring but was an avid humanitarian at heart. “He was famous all over the world. I grew up in a small rural village in Turkey and knew his name. He reached people from all walks of life.” Halil Demir, executive director, stated. In line with Zakat Foundation of America’s mission, Zakat Foundation of America honors and respects those who seek to better humanity. May Allah (swt) grant Muhammad Ali paradise and allow his legacy to live on.
