CHICAGO (Nov. 21, 2019) — Zakat Foundation of America and Gorham United Methodist Church teamed up this past Saturday, Nov. 23, and distributed food baskets to families in need for Thanksgiving.
“We wanted to help our neighbors and friends enjoy a healthful meal with all the trimmings during these days of family gathering and happiness,” said Halil Demir, Zakat Foundation’s executive director.
From 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Zakat Foundation and Gorham Church staff handed out food baskets to recipients with designated vouchers, which family representatives picked up from the church at 5600 S. Indiana Ave, in Chicago.
Demir and staff packed and delivered 120 boxes filled with rice, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, noodles, sugar, tomato sauce, yams, turkey gravy, evaporated milk, cranberry sauce, cereal, cookies, paper towels, and tissue paper to Gorham.
