The season of Qurbani 2025 has now passed, with your incredible sacrifices bringing fresh meat to 328,062 beneficiaries in 49 countries who otherwise lack critical access to nutritional staples. As we look ahead to the year to come, planning our next yearly qurbani (also known as udhiyah) efforts becomes timely to ensure we make the most of giving this impactful charity.
The giving of qurbani is all about commemorating the ultimate submission of the Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail (on them be peace), to God’s will, during the first 10 Days of the Islamic month of Dhu’l-Hijjah - a time also marked by the Hajj pilgrimage.
Through the giving of qurbani, Muslims’ sacrifice of specific kinds of livestock (usually a sheep or cow) and distribution of their meat to the poor in their local and global communities reminds us of the spiritual duty to help those less fortunate than us. Qurbani is a means of sharing resources and support, and this tradition of giving its meat, starting on the first day of Eid al-Adha, helps provide needed nutrition to those who otherwise would go without on Eid.
When are Qurbani 2026 and Eid al-Adha 2026?
The date of the beginning of the month of Dhu’l-Hijjah changes every year in the Gregorian calendar, typically by a span of 11 days earlier than the previous year’s Dhu’l-Hijjah. Additionally, the celebration of Eid al-Adha is determined in part by Saudi Arabia’s announcement of the Hajj pilgrimage schedule.
With Dhu’l-Hijjah 2025 having begun on May 28th, 2025, it is expected that Dhul-Hijjah 2026 will begin around May 17th, 2026. Additionally, since Eid al-Adha 2025 was observed on the day of June 6th, 2026, it is possible that Eid al-Adha 2026 will fall on the day of Tuesday, May 27th. And God knows best.
