The coastal villages of southern Bangladesh are regularly struck by seasonal monsoon rains, flooding, and cyclones, resulting in devastation and severely limited access to safe, clean drinking water. The district of Satkhira faces extreme challenges, as its water sources contain high levels of salt, making it difficult to find drinkable water. Our water projects have helped families across these villages find solutions through reverse osmosis.

Baduria is an isolated village in the Satkhira district where for Rupali, a 30-year-old woman who bears the weight of responsibility for her family of eight, life unfolds against the backdrop of a relentless challenge: the quest to find safe drinking water.

Every day, Rupali treks nearly one kilometer to the community's shared reservoir of comparatively less salty water. This daily journey, which consumes an hour of her time, is a necessity for countless families in the village. While the pond offers some relief from salinity, it harbors pathogens and harmful microbes, leaving villagers vulnerable to waterborne and skin diseases. The walk for water is not only time-consuming but also physically hazardous. Carrying the heavy jar that meets her family's water needs, Rupali has stumbled and fallen numerous times, the full container amplifying the impact. During the scorching summer months, when the pond dries up, the struggle worsens, forcing the villagers to rely solely on collected rainwater stored in tanks to survive the waterless season.

Our water Desalination Reverse Osmosis plant, a symbol of relief, was inaugurated near Rupali's village. The plant uses techniques to turn salty water into clean, drinkable water. It pushes the salty water through special filters that remove the salt and other harmful substances. What comes out is fresh water that is safe to drink and use. For the first time in her life, Rupali witnessed the miraculous transformation of seawater into fresh, pure drinking water near her home. This desalination plant, a testament to our commitment to community welfare, not only brought relief but also opened a new chapter of possibilities for Rupali.
