This year, like each of the past 15 years, generosity from donors like you has allowed us to reach people in dozens of countries around the world during Ramadan.
Your donations are powerful. They reached people from various cultures on five continents.
Key programs in Ramadan 2023
More specifically, you helped us feed millions of people in Ramadan 2023. Your donations provided hot meals for people to break their fasts on each night. They provided food packages that each last a family of five a month. Short-term and throughout the month, you fed the hungry when they needed it most.
Although iftar meals and food packages are the foundation of our Ramadan efforts, there’s always more. This year, you helped us go above and beyond in three key ways.
The extra mile
A simple grain of rice can help feed a starving family. And this Ramadan, you helped us fulfill our pledge to distribute 1 million kilograms of rice. By giving just $1 a day, generous donors like you sent 1 kilogram of rice to a family in need. You were the reason a child and parent slept securely.
And at Al-Rantisi Pediatric Specialized Hospital in Gaza, Palestine, we made a difference in the lives of children facing cancer. Zakat Foundation of America has been providing critical care to these children, reducing referrals of patients leaving for treatment, and bridging the gap between the hospital's services and patients’ needs since May 2022. By helping us provide comprehensive medical treatment, meals, and supportive medication, your donations give hope and a fighting chance to these vulnerable patients.
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Türkiye and Syria on Feb. 6, causing over 10,000 aftershocks, claiming more than 50,000 lives and affecting 9.1 million people. Zakat Foundation of America deployed teams on the ground to provide relief, medical supplies, food packs and shelter. That continued throughout Ramadan 2023, as we empowered earthquake victims through our Tent Village in Adiyaman, Türkiye. It provides needy families with a secure shelter equipped with water facilities, irrigation, and electricity, and essential amenities. Additionally, an on-site Health and Mental Health Clinic offers medical and psychological care. The road to recovery may seem long, but with your continued short-term and long-term support, we will continue to provide for both short and long term needs.
