Bungoma: Orphans from Bungoma Muslim Primary and Secondary School had a cause to smile as they went back to school this term.

The Zakat Foundation of America through Bungoma Muslim Youth Group donated school uniform and bags for 18 brilliant orphans who had not been able to attend school due to lack of school uniform.

The organization also distributed food to 183 needy Muslim families in Bungoma County and its environs.

Bungoma mayor Martin Mbinga Barasa hailed the Foundation and Muslim Youth Group for the donation which he said was a good humanitarian gesture.

He challenged other NGOs in the Municipality to emulate the example of Muslim Youth Group and promised to continue supporting the Muslim community in education and social infrastructure development.

Dr. Amin Ali Sheikh, Chairman of Kenya Red Cross Society Bungoma branch advised the community and the municipality to improve housing conditions by upgrading slums into flats. Sheikh’s sentiments were echoed by the mayor who promised to engage with the Ministry of Housing and other stakeholders to improve housing conditions in Mjini and neighbouring areas.

The function which took place in Bungoma Muslim Primary school first week of October this year was also attended by the Deputy Mayor Esther Eshitanda, Councillor Zainab and community Leaders
