The Khalil Center in Chicago & Zakat Foundation: A Beacon of Hope for Muslim Mental Health
Mental health is a critical aspect of our overall well-being, and for Muslims living in America, finding culturally-sensitive and faith-based mental health services can be challenging. That's where the Khalil Center comes in. Established in 2011, the Khalil Center is a community mental health center that specializes in providing culturally-sensitive, faith-based psychological services to Muslim communities in the Chicagoland area.
The Need for Culturally-Sensitive Mental Health Services
For Muslims in America, seeking out mental health services can be a daunting experience. Many Muslims feel uncomfortable seeking help from non-Muslim mental health providers due to cultural or language barriers, while others may feel that their mental health concerns may not be understood or validated by non-Muslim professionals. Additionally, there is often a stigma attached to mental health in many Muslim communities, which can prevent individuals from seeking out the help they need.
