ISLAMABAD, July 29: Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah will represent Pakistan at the two-day Turkish Festival in Chicago on August 1-2, where he is scheduled to address an international forum on global poverty and showcase Pakistan’s social protection initiatives.
The event, organised by the Zakat Foundation of America, will bring together members of the Turkish, Pakistani, Arab and wider Muslim communities to discuss key humanitarian and social challenges.
According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Federal Minister will speak at an international session titled “Poverty: A Global Threat,” highlighting Pakistan’s poverty reduction strategy, the government’s social safety programmes and the Ministry’s efforts to support vulnerable communities. He will also share Pakistan’s experience and recommendations for tackling poverty through stronger international cooperation.
On the second day of the festival, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah will participate in a special session on the life and teachings of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi, where he will underline Rumi’s universal message of peace, love, spirituality and humanity while highlighting the shared cultural and spiritual heritage of Pakistan and Türkiye.
During his visit, the Federal Minister will also tour the headquarters of the Zakat Foundation of America and hold a meeting with the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Halil Demir. He is expected to receive a briefing on the Foundation’s humanitarian and development projects in Pakistan and its global relief initiatives. Discussions will also focus on expanding cooperation in poverty alleviation, social welfare and humanitarian assistance.
The Minister will further engage with members of the Pakistani-American community in Chicago to brief them on the Government of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection and improve the welfare of underprivileged segments of society.
