Shaherezad Shelves - Publishing House

Shaherazad Shelves, founded by two Muslim sisters three years ago in the New York publishing scene, is helping new authors. The publishing house aims to transform worldwide by dismantling traditional publishing barriers, particularly for marginalised authors from low-income, immigrant, or religious minority backgrounds. By offering a direct submission platform during open submission periods, Shaherazad Shelves welcomes writers from Global Majority ethnic groups or those without literary representation. The publishing house has three distinct imprints: Shush Books, Saladeen Books, and Sorra Books, fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment.

The organization's mission is to embody a social form of zakat, the Islamic principle of charitable giving, by investing in the education and development of young Muslim authors. This aligns with the ethos of zakat, nurturing creativity and fostering social progress within the community. Shaherazad Shelves recognizes the transformative power of diverse narratives in enriching the cultural tapestry and fostering cross-cultural understanding. By amplifying the voices of young Muslim authors, the publishing house ensures their stories resonate on a global scale.
