With 2.1 million people in need, Palestine is experiencing a humanitarian crisis. But how can you donate to Palestine? Not all charitable organizations use the funds they receive efficiently, so those who want to donate to Palestine must start by doing their research.

Furthermore, not all charities that do humanitarian work in Palestine reach both Gaza and the West Bank. Often, charities will focus on projects in just one of the areas.

In 2021, at least 94 cents out of every dollar Zakat Foundation of America raised went to which donors pledged their hard-earned money. In the case of emergency relief, Zakat Foundation of America puts 100% of donations toward disaster relief efforts, taking out no administrative costs or other fees.

Zakat Foundation of America has been providing aid in Palestine for 20 years. It has for years worked with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to rebuild homes in Gaza. It has worked with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) to provide medical treatment and orphan sponsorship to Palestinian children. It has worked with American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) to provide greenhouses in Gaza that enable families to grow their own fresh, organic food and sell extras.

Every year, Zakat Foundation of America distributes nightly warm iftar meals in Ramadan and food packages that each last a family the entire month. Its representatives take orphans shopping for new Eid al-Fitr clothes and gifts. Just a couple months after that each year, representatives return to take orphans out again for new clothes and gifts to celebrate Eid al-Adha. And on Eid al-Adha, they and their loved ones receive fresh udhiyah (also called qurbani) meat for udhiyah.

It provides education for children at all grade levels and, over the past few years, provides COVID-19 relief, including personal protective equipment (PPE). It even supports Palestinian refugees in neighboring countries like Lebanon and Jordan through food security programs and emergency relief, as well as vocational training for a more sustainable livelihood.

The aid Zakat Foundation of America provides is comprehensive in that it addresses short-term and long-term needs. The humanitarian organization based out of Illinois in the United States provides education to Palestinian children, food security, health care, winter relief and more in Palestine.

Zakat Foundation of America is a Better Business Bureau accredited charity. Charity Navigator rates it a four-star (out of four stars) charity and grades it a 100% when it comes to accountability and transparency.
