Bangladesh

Deep in the forests of Gundum Zero Point, Naikhanchori, we met three adult Rohingya refugee sisters living in a single cramped shelter with their elder sister’s family. Orphaned, separated from most siblings, and carrying the heavy burden of loss, fear, and invisibility, they lacked safety, identity, and opportunity. Through our Emergency Relief Health Camp, we provided vital care, emotional support, and resources, empowering them to regain dignity, resilience, self-worth, and hope despite ongoing displacement.

Alone in Nairobi, she faced exploitation, illness, and financial insecurity while trying to sustain her mobile salon business. Since joining RefuSHE, supported by Zakat Foundation of America, Denise has gained business skills, access to loans, and a supportive community. Now a chairlady and entrepreneur, she empowers herself, grows her salon, and dreams of securing education and a better future for her children.
