CHICAGO, August 24, 2017 - Zakat Foundation of America will be participating in the first South Shore International College Preparatory High School Back-To-School Charity Fashion Show on Sunday, August 27, from 6-8 p.m.
Zakat Foundation of America will be presenting a $2,000 scholarship award to essay contest winner Daija Alexander. The high school junior and Co-Captain of the HOSA/Medical Program won this competition with her essay, “How I Plan to Become the Next Leader in Medicine.”
Alexander, who works five days a week with After School Matters in addition to being an honor roll student, wrote that she helps her family pay the rent/light bills and strives to earn as many scholarships as she can to help relieve the stress on her family.
The proceeds from the fashion show will go back to the students for college scholarships, room and board, and to keep our after-school fashion program active in wake of state budgets,” said Stanley Coleman, Programs Manager at South Shore International College Preparatory High School. “We use any vehicle possible to keep our students off the street, especially in our area since it is plagued by violence.”
The awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a charity fashion show.
