One of Islam’s special charities is Aqiqah, an act of pure joy and gratitude performed by parents upon the birth of their new child.
On the seventh day after a child’s birth, a goat or lamb is sacrificed for the sake of God, and its meat shared with loved ones, friends, and those in most need. The child’s hair is also shaved and they are given their full name, marking the true beginning of the child’s identity and life in this world. This tradition, established by the Prophet Muhammad (on him be peace) himself, is an intentional, nourishing act meant to bring communities closer together and initiate a blessed start for a child’s new life.
