Zakat Foundation of America’s Delaware office is celebrating its 2nd year as winners of the CANgineering challenge held by the Food Bank of America. Every year, teams transform donated food items into impressive sculptures. This innovative competition encourages participants to collect canned goods, select a theme, and design structures that showcase their creativity and teamwork. But it’s not just about building—it’s about making a difference.
This year, our youth team took home the Overall Youth Entry award with their theme, “Blast Away Hunger,” featuring a stunning rocket sculpture. It's a testament to their dedication and the power of collective effort. We are thrilled at their creativity and commitment to helping those in need. With meticulous planning and collaboration, they constructed their sculptures following competition guidelines. Once completed, the Food Bank of Delaware's judges evaluated the creations, asked questions, and announced the winners. The best part? All the cans used were donated to the Food Bank to support Delaware’s vulnerable communities.
Aaliyah Sheikh from Team Zakat shares, “CANgineering has been an amazing and fun experience for me. I have been involved in this program for the past 3 years, starting as a rookie in 2021 and working my way up to become one of the team leaders in 2024. CANgineering has shown me how you can have fun while also giving back to the community. We were able to organize food donation drives and hold several meetings where we brainstormed ideas and potential structures. This competition allowed me to help out my community and showed me how to work in a team.”
CANgineering is more than just a competition. It’s a movement toward ending food insecurity. If you’re looking for a way to combine creativity, teamwork, and community service, this is your chance. Connect with our offices across the U.S. to get involved and make a difference.
