Backpack Distribution Benefits Refugees, Needy Families

The children attending Chicago Public Schools (CPS) have already faced budget cuts, school closures, and one of the most dangerous commutes in the country. To help facilitate the beginning of a new school year, Zakat Foundation of America visited community centers in the inner-city for its annual school supply and Backpack Distribution Benefits Refugees, Needy Families on Northa and South side of Chicago.

Zakat Foundation of America recently stopped by the Rohingya Culture Center (RCC) on the North Side and the Nation of Islam located in the South Shore neighborhood where families in need received backpacks and school supplies.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to be able to get backpack supplies for my two sons because every bit counts,” said Kareem Mohammad, one of the beneficiaries from the Nation of Islam. “The backpacks provided by Zakat Foundation will help with making sure my sons have what they need to be prepared for school.”

“Everybody likes it,” said Nasir, one of the Rohingya refugees at the RCC. “People from different places like Afghanistan, Somalia, and India that would never showed up came and I was able to help them. Thank you, Zakat Foundation of America.”
