Fazal Ur Rehman

Fazal Ur Rehman serves as the Deputy Country Director for Zakat Foundation of America in Pakistan. With over 37 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, he brings a deep commitment to sustainable development, humanitarian response, and organizational leadership.

He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Islamabad (2024), an MS in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University (2002), and a master's in economics from IIUI (1988).

Before joining Zakat Foundation of America in December 2023, Fazal served in senior leadership roles across several international organizations. He was Country Director for Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) in Pakistan for 13 years, Executive Director of ICNA Relief Canada for four years, and a consultant and national coordinator with READ Foundation Pakistan from 2018 to 2023. He also held an advisory position with the American Refugee Committee (ARC).

Throughout his career, Fazal has designed and led large-scale humanitarian and development programs, including emergency relief operations, orphan support, healthcare, livelihoods, vocational training, and water and sanitation initiatives. He has implemented projects across disaster-affected regions in Pakistan and internationally, including Somalia, Kenya, Myanmar, and Nepal.

At HHRD, he established innovative models such as the Comprehensive Child Development Program and the ESAR Microfinance Initiative. He also managed logistics, finance, HR, and compliance across multi-million-dollar programs and led a national team of 400 staff members.

Fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi, and several regional languages, Fazal is known for his strategic leadership, public engagement, and strong stakeholder relations. He has represented organizations in national and international forums and has contributed to policy development, donor relations, and institutional partnerships.

He lives in Pakistan with his family and continues to serve vulnerable communities through Zakat Foundation of America’s mission of mercy.
