Muhammad Ali once said: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” That’s a message embodied by Zakat Foundation of America volunteers around the world.
Zakat Foundation of America volunteers received recognition for their dedicated community service June 18 at the Presidential Awards Ceremony held in Newark, Delaware. The event also included an Iftar dinner that Zakat Foundation of America sponsored.
After dinner, community leaders, including State Representative Paul Baumbach and Sheikh Abdel-Hadi, took to the stage to speak on the importance of volunteering and the impact of Zakat Foundation of America’s work in the community.
“As someone who has both worked and volunteered with Zakat Foundation of America youth, I can attest to their integrity, enthusiasm, and capacity to lead,” said Daniel Elkins, Community Prevention Coordinator for New Castle County.
“It was an honor and privilege to attend and witness the Zakat Foundation of America community breakfast together and pay tribute to the spirit of volunteerism. The world is a much better place with Zakat Foundation of America and its youth in it.”
Throughout the year, Zakat Foundation of America volunteers create fundraising projects to support humanitarian programs to empower lives around the world. The volunteers often collaborate with local organizations to respond to community issues such as food insecurity and disaster relief. One of their most successful projects is the Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP).
“We have an amazing group of volunteers who inspire us to reach our vision and challenge us to achieve more so we can leave a legacy of giving,” said Nafeesa Majeed, Zakat Foundation of America East Coast Coordinator.
