Zakat Foundation of America was recognized for its emergency humanitarian response efforts as one of the nominees at the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) Annual Conference held in late May.
North Carolina VOAD, a longtime partner of Zakat Foundation of America, eventually won the 2016 State/Territory Award of the Year.
“NC VOAD played a key role during the Hurricane Matthew relief,” said Mr. Murat Kose, Zakat Foundation of America’s East Coast Director. “[Our] partnership with them helped our Hurricane Matthew relief work easier and more effective. NC VOAD really has done great work and deserved the award.”
Ann Hoffman, President of NC VOAD, also recognized and thanked Zakat Foundation of America during her acceptance speech.
In the past, Zakat Foundation of America has worked with various VOAD partners across the U.S. in response to natural disasters. Zakat Foundation of America has been one of the first Muslim humanitarian organizations on the ground in response to major U.S. disasters in recent years, including Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, and the recent North Texas tornadoes.
