Reverend Larry Dowling was recognized for leading social justice efforts in the Chicagoland community. For years, Dowling championed for immigrants’ rights while supporting violence prevention and educational initiatives.

He currently serves as the pastor of St. Agatha Parish and St. Agatha Catholic Academy in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood in addition to being an ARISE Chicago board member.

“Not only do you stand with labor, for the workers, the rights of workers,” Demir said, “you also stand for the right of the immigrants, for the rights of Muslims, and for the rights of the oppressed masses.”

“You truly are a warrior for social justice,” Demir continued. “I am honored to present this well-deserved award to you on behalf of ARISE Chicago’s board, employees, and supporters.”

ARISE Chicago is an organization between faith communities and workers who fight workplace injustice through education, organizing, and advocating for public policy chances. It is represented by several faith-based organizations, including Zakat Foundation.

In recent years, ARISE Chicago and its associated organizations have been training and organizing low-wage immigrant workers to improve Chicagoland workplaces.

“We are stronger and more resilient than ever,” said President Lee Saunders. “Workers across the country are organizing in innovative ways. Sisters and brothers, this is a movement moment!”
