In response to armed mobs attacking churches in Pakistan, Zakat Foundation of America has committed to helping lay a new foundation for churches.
The mob attacks burned and vandalized 26 churches in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Mobs also attacked nearby Christian homes and communities.
Zakat Foundation of America's emergency response team is assisting victimized Christian families who reside in nearby colonies. The nonprofit organization is providing food and everyday essentials to the victims as short-term relief.
Zakat Foundation of America’s long-term plan is to rebuild four churches that were burned down. Pakistan's Christian minority needs assistance to rebuild homes and places of worship.
Interfaith support is a sadaqah
Compassion is key to developing and maintaining a strong community, especially an interfaith community.
Just as Islamophobia has persisted in the west for more than two decades, anti-Christian sentiments continue in some Christian-minority communities. And as Pakistani Christians work to rebuild their own homes and houses of worship, Muslims must remember that Islam’s message is one of peace and community support. And whereas zakat has specific designations for its usage, sadaqah has much wider applications.
In the case of Pakistani church fires, sadaqah donations can provide:
Cleaning and hygiene supplies, including laundry powder, dishwashing bards and soap.
Food package for a family of five. They include but are not limited to rice, lentils, sugar, spices, oil and tea.
Bedding and kitchen supplies. Other home supplies include pots, pans, a fan, water coolers, sleeping mats, two beds, bed sheets, blankets, mattress and pillows.
Support toward rebuilding the churches.
Zakat Foundation of America will work in partnership with the local communities to begin reconstruction of the four churches.
100% Pledge
Zakat Foundation of America does not take any cost out of emergency funding. 100% of funds donated to emergency relief campaigns will go directly to aid and assist; we do not take any administrative fees from emergency relief programs.
