UN envoy Mullah Akdboa visited the Zakat Foundation of America Al Rahma clinic in Mazboud, Lebanon, during a tour of clinics serving Syrian refugees. He expressed his approval of the continuous medical relief work that Zakat Foundation of America is doing in the region.
The ongoing civil war in Syria has driven more than 1 million refugees into Lebanon since it began in March, 2011. According to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, almost half of the refugees are in dire need of food, shelter and medical care.
During Mullah Akdboa’s visit, Zakat Foundation of America representative Ghaleb Shehade invited the UN envoy to visit another clinic located very near the Syrian border in Al Aamayer. Mullah Akdboa expressed his admiration for the location of the clinic and marveled at the 2,000 patients treated there free of charge every month, promising to visit during his tour.
Since March, 2011, Zakat Foundation of America has provided more than $8 million in aid to internally displaced and refugee Syrians. But with 75,000 new refugees pouring into Lebanon every month, more help is needed.
To complicate matters, the UNHCR has been forced to limit the medical care it can provide to this growing population due to funding cuts, making the contributions of charities to the relief work even more crucial.
Your generous contribution to Syrian refugee aid will help the people caught in the crossfire of this protracted and violent conflict until they can return to their homes in peace.
