Little Jamila who is only 7. Jamila, her nine brothers and sisters and her parents all lived in Al Rastan, an area of Homs, Syria. Jamila’s home was completely destroyed by steady bombardment and shelling on the entire city. Jamila and her family were forced to desert their own city and seek refuge in Lebanon. The family now lives in a single room in Al A’mayer which is close to the Lebanese-Syrian border.
Since March 2011, Syria has been engaged in a violent uprising that has taken the lives of at least 40,000 people and displaced another 1.5 million people. Families have been forced to leave their homes and flee to the neighboring countries of Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.
