Summaya stands in front of her home in Gaza, or what was left of it. The airstrikes during the summer conflict in 2014 have reduced her home to nothing but rubble. Due to the poor economic condition in Gaza, she is unable to rent a home, and instead, sets up a tent beside her ruined house. Her story is just one of the thousands of those affected in the Farheen district of Gaza. “I used to live in a four story building and living in a tent is unbearable,” said Summya. “I feel miserable and devastated.” Zakat Foundation of America has been providing aid for the people of Gaza for over a decade, and InshAllah hopes to increase humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. A new program Zakat Foundation of America is currently working on is the home reconstruction project in Gaza, which would help repair the homes of those affected by decades of conflict.
