Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was a man who always stood up for the rights of his community and people. This is the main reason why he is considered to be one of the greatest athletes of all time, not only for his dominance inside the ring but also for his impact outside of it. Ali was a pioneer in the civil rights movement and would stand up for injustices even if it meant that he would incur a personal loss. Moreover, there are many stories detailing how he helped the poor and underprivileged people around him as well.

He once saved a man from killing himself. Therefore, it should not be surprising that his daughter has also taken up social activism like her father. Maryum Ali, the eldest daughter of the former champion who he had with his second wife Khalilah Ali did exactly this after she urged fans across the world to help people currently suffering from the disaster.

Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Maryum Ali urges everyone to donate for people affected by earthquake in Turkey and Syria

In a recent Instagram post, she called out for the help of people and wanted them to contribute toward the relief funds. In addition, the donations were for the Zakat foundation which was currently on the ground, providing help to the people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Maryum would also link the Instagram page of the organization in the post and claimed that they can be trusted.

Please donate to The Zakat Foundation who are on the ground in Turkey helping those impacted by the earthquake. My friends from Turkey operate this organization and they can be trusted! #zakatfoundationofamerica @zakatus #earthquakeinturkeyandsyria Zakat.org,” she wrote in the caption.

This was a great effort by Ali to add funds to help the affected people in the earthquake which recently hit Turkey and Syria. The earthquake has caused a huge loss of life and property which will take years to rebuild. However, these relief works are necessary for awareness as well as to raise funds.

Massive earthquake hits Turkey and Syria

In the early hours of Monday, a massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude hit Turkey and regions of Syria. As per the BBC, around 11,000 people have been killed by the earthquake, with many more being injured or rendered homeless. Moreover, this is only the third earthquake of this magnitude in the last 10 years.

Syria and Turkey both fall under the fault lines of these earthquakes and are more prone to them. However, the area hadn’t had an earthquake in over 200 years. This made the people even less prepared when the disaster actually happened. Despite this, development projects and exploiting natural resources have made the surface more vulnerable.
