Hurricane Beryl sent shockwaves across the Texas coast and parts of southeast Texas with power outages for 3 million residents, primarily in the Houston area. The Category 1 hurricane caused widespread damage with its strong winds and heavy rainfall and claimed the lives of 36 people.

Zakat Foundation of America Houston representatives took no time to team up with local mosques and organizations to provide immediate relief to over 1,000 families in need.

Syed Yousuf, our Senior Regional Development Specialist, who spearheaded these efforts, stated, “Hurricane Beryl has left too many families in our community struggling.  It is great to see volunteers coming together to serve our neighbors. Here in Houston, and around the world, Zakat Foundation of America is continuing its work to provide humanitarian assistance to families in need.”

Volunteers came out in large numbers to give back to their communities and support our efforts. Our Outreach and Community Engagement initiatives provide ample opportunities for those passionate about change to make a difference.

These efforts did not go unnoticed with The Houston Chronicle covering our distributions. Our Houston office is working diligently to provide continued support for families struggling in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.
