Nonprofits and organizations are still working to provide residents and veterans with food after Hurricane Beryl affected the Houston area earlier this month.

Many Houstonians have so far been able to access food distribution centers and some families in need have received food deliveries after the storm caused many to be without power for weeks. Here are the following groups that are still working to give away food:

Zakat Foundation Houston

Zakat Foundation Houston, a local branch of a global nonprofit, partnered with other volunteers to help give food packages to 1,000 families.

The nonprofit worked with volunteers to provide three more distribution events to be held in low-income areas this weekend, according to a news release. The Senior Development and Fund-Raising Specialist of the South Region Syed Yousuf said in an email there will be a food distribution Saturday at 11 a.m. at Universal Church, 7075 Southwest Fwy., in Houston.

The food packages are being prepared at Zakat Foundation of America's flagship office at 3949 Braxton Dr. in Houston.

"Hurricane Beryl has left too many families in our community struggling. It is great to see volunteers coming together to serve our neighbors this weekend," Yousuf said in a statement.

For anyone who wants to volunteer or needs food, the nonprofit recommends contacting Yousuf at 407-431-5396 or [email protected].
