Zakat Foundation in Nepal
Lying along the base of the Himalayas, this small, mountainous country is among the world’s poorest with about a quarter of its population living below the poverty line. Political instability has made sustained industrial and infrastructural development difficult, with 70 – 80% of the population confined to the agricultural economy.
In Nepal, Zakat Foundation of America has worked to provide disaster relief following the massive 2015 earthquake, and is constructing new schools for some of the country’s poorest rural communities. Additionally, ZF sponsors the education and livelihoods of Nepalese orphans and needy children, and also distributes food and children’s gifts in celebration of the Ramadan and Eid holidays.
