In the summer of 2010, flooding engulfed Pakistan. In addition to taking the lives of more than 2,500 people, the floods caused severe destruction of property, livelihoods and internal infrastructure, affecting nearly 20 million people.
In the fall of 2010, Zakat Foundation of America sent the second of three containers to Pakistan. The container was packed at Zakat Foundation of America’s warehouse facility with hygiene products; medical supplies, wheel chairs, and crutches; along with clothing for children and adults, blankets, and bicycles.
In January 2011, the container arrived in Pakistan. After receiving the items Zakat Foundation of America’s local partner sent teams out to conduct surveys of various flood affected areas. The goods were then distributed to needy flood victims in several villages in the district of Muzaffargarh.
More than six hundred people and their families in Muzaffargarh benefited from the goods distribution. Many families were grateful to receive warm clothes and blankets just in time for the brunt of winter. The disabled population in the area welcomed the crutches and wheelchairs.
