Zakat Foundation of America is proud to announce that it has again received a four star rating from Charity Navigator, which is its highest possible rating. Charity Navigator’s exclusive four star rating is reserved for exceptional non-profit organizations that exhibit the most responsible fiscal management and a demonstrated commitment to transparency and accountability. It is only awarded after a rigorous and extensive data-driven examination shows that a given organization is run with the highest ethical standards.

“Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way,” said Michael Thatcher, the CEO of Charity Navigator, in a letter to Zakat Foundation of America.

“Approximately a quarter of the charities we evaluate have received our highest rating, indicating that the Zakat Foundation of America outperforms most other charities in America.”

89 cents of every dollar donated to Zakat Foundation of America in 2014 went directly into programs, with only 8 cents per dollar supporting administrative and management expenses. Zakat Foundation of America also publishes its intake and expenditures in every issue of its newsletter, encouraging its donors and the broader public to examine its records.
