Zakat Foundation of America Holds Rally for Burmese Muslims in Washington DC

On Monday, September 24, Zakat Foundation of America held a peaceful rally for Rohingya Muslims in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Washington DC.

Speakers included Dr. Wakar Uddin, who is a Rohingya Muslim, Professor at Penn State University, Chairman of the Burmese Rohingya Association of North America, and the Director General of the Arakan Rohingya Union. He asked that the Myanmar government stop the violence and give basic rights to the Rohingya people.

T. Kumar, the Director of International Advocacy at Amnesty International USA, also spoke and said that Amnesty International has been monitoring the situation of Rohingya Muslims and will continue to advocate for their human rights until they get them.

Murat Kose, Zakat Foundation of America East Coast Program Director also spoke about Zakat Foundation of America's work in Myanmar/Burma through our Emergency Crisis Relief Campaign and our commitment to helping the Rohingya people during this time of need.

People from all types of religious and cultural backgrounds joined us to stand for the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar and rally for their equal rights.
