BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — On Monday, May 4, from noon to 2 p.m., Zakat Foundation of America will be hosting a fresh produce and meat distribution to 100 families. This will happen in a drive-through format at our headquarters, located at 7421 W, 100th Place, Bridgeview, IL 60455.

Zakat Foundation wants to make sure people know they can come to us for support as they battle COVID-19’s physical and economic effects.

Since March, Zakat Foundation has launched emergency response programs in more than 20 countries in North America, Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The response includes personal protective equipment (PPE), food packages, hygiene kits, preventative education and awareness, testing, mental-health counseling, warm meals and cash assistance. These programs are all ongoing.

In the Chicago area, specifically, Zakat Foundation has distributed about 100,000 medical gloves and 2,000 N95 medical masks — with 5,000 more ready for distribution — more than 1,500 food packages and about 10,000 lunch boxes, and more than 1,000 hygiene kits.

So far, our Chicago-area distribution has brought assistance to the following hospitals and health centers:

  • Roseland Community Hospital

  • Franciscan St. James Hospital

  • St. Bernard’s Hospital

  • Pine Crest Nursing Home

  • Landmark Nursing Home

  • IMAN Clinic

  • Hamdard Clinic

  • Mt. Sinai Hospital

  • Jackson Park Hospital

  • South Shore Hospital

  • Homeless Coalition

  • Holy Cross Hospital

  • Children Rehabilitation Center

Aside from distributions in Chicago, domestically, Zakat Foundation has also been working in Queens, New York; San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange County, California; Durham, North Carolina; in New Jersey; in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area; in Delaware and in St. Louis, Missouri.
