Response to Humanitarian Crisis

The Dominican Republic is facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with widespread challenges affecting vulnerable communities. Access to clean water, healthcare, and education remains limited for many. Poverty, inequality, and social disparities persist, exacerbating the struggles faced by marginalized populations. We have been providing relief since 2010 through food and meat packages during Ramadan and Dhul Hijjah and more recently providing vocational trainings for a path towards self-sufficiency.

Jazmin

20-year-old Jazmin (center) is from a community limited in economic resources and enrolled in our Dental Assistant training program. Jazmin’s aspirations include pursuing further education, excelling in her career, providing for her daughter's future, and attaining a higher quality of life. She now has a steady income, health insurance, and better living conditions. “I would like to participate in more courses to acquire better knowledge in other areas. Thank you, Zakat Foundation!”

Milagros

Hurrican Fiona hit the region in September of 2022 and damaged over 2,600 homes as reported by Relief Web. 66-year-old Milagros, from El Seibo, experienced significant damage to her house, with up to 50% of it being affected. In addition to the substantial structural damage, she lost all her furniture. Expressing immense gratitude, she emphasized that no one had assisted her until now. Our emergency kit included hygiene staples, food, clean water and more.
