Volunteer Feature Series: Intro

Outreach Coordinator Abdelhamid Omran speaks at the 2017 Boys to Men Conference in Chicago

What inspires you to change the world?

Because we are inundated with negative news updates on a daily basis, it is easy to become complacent and feel hopeless when you want to make a tangible change in the world.

As the Outreach Coordinator at Zakat Foundation, I organize all volunteer efforts and am often confronted with this kind of attitude and outlook from prospective volunteers. Most people do want to help and make a positive change, but sometimes they feel the world’s problems are so many and so insurmountable that they can’t make any substantive changes. In addition, even if their efforts would make a difference, sometimes they still do not know how or what to do to make a broader impact.

This blog series will show that you can, in fact, make a positive change in the world, and that Zakat Foundation of America has already begun doing so.

Volunteer experiences from a diverse array of backgrounds will be explored weekly in this Feature Series. You will hear directly from volunteers what they did to impact their community, what inspired them to mobilize, and motivational words and stories to fuel you on your journey to make the world a better place.

The Volunteer Feature Series will continue every Wednesday on the Zakat Foundation of America Blog. Check back with us each week to hear the first inspiring story about improving the world, and reach out to [email protected] if you’d like to make a change in the world.

With peace,

Abdelhamid Omran
