Tinley Park Youth Group Inspired To Build Water Well

Last fall, a water scarcity presentation by Zakat Foundation of America helped inspire a girls youth group from Tinley Park, Illinois to start their own water well fundraising project. Nearly 25 girls initiated #ProjectIhsan, where they would collect money by doing chores at home. Towards the end of the school year, a family picnic was held to celebrate their accomplishment. #ProjectIhsan ultimately raised enough to install a hand pump water well, which will greatly benefit a community with little or no access to clean drinking water.

“I absolutely do not think we are too young and small to take on these big problems,” said Sara Shalash, one of the girls that participated in #ProjectIhsan. “My rule as a follower of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is by helping others and to never think you aren’t good enough. What you need is Allah, and your own belief in yourself.”

If these young girls can make a positive difference, so can you. Zakat Foundation of America is always willing to work with youth groups on creative projects for fundraising. Reach out to us by contacting [email protected].
