As of the moment that we are writing this article, 400,000 Rohingyans are running for their lives, hiding in forests and mountains with no refuge. 290,000 have been forced to flee by flimsy boats in a vast sea only to find armed soldiers at the shores of neighboring borders forcing them back to sea. Thousands have been killed, or drowned. Their villages have been set ablaze. According to the UN, over 50% of the women have been raped, including teenagers.
Why? Because they are Muslim. This is nothing short of Genocide. They are waiting for the world to take notice and to help. Together, we can bring ease to our Rohingyan sisters and brothers.
For the last ten years, Zakat Foundation of America has been providing urgent relief to Rohingyans inside Burma, as well as to those who have taken refuge in India, Bangladesh and the United States. We have consistently provided a lifeline of food, hygiene, resettlement assistance, and even income-generating rickshaws so they can rebuild their lives after losing everything.
Zakat Foundation of America’s office in Bangladesh and our partners inside Myanmar are currently responding to this inhumane tragedy and working hard to bring urgent relief to the victims of these atrocious crimes.
