North Sumatran Villagers Roll Up Sleeves to Clean Volcanic Ash

Villagers in the North Sumatran region surrounding Mt. Sinabung, which erupted in early February, are returning home to face the task of cleaning inches-deep deposits of ash off their roads, gardens and homes.

In response to feedback from residents, who report that they are receiving food aid from other charities, Zakat Foundation of America is supporting the effort by distributing cleaning supplies so that the thick blanket of superfine ash can be removed from outdoor surfaces and the thin layer that coats everything indoors can be cleaned.

The brooms, mops, dust pans, cleaning solutions and trash bags allow these North Sumatran villagers to clean the layers of ash off their homes and begin living life again. You can roll up your sleeves and help by donating today.
