A delegation of 30 graduate students in conflict resolution visited a school that Zakat Foundation of America sponsors for Syrian refugee children in Gaziantep, Turkey.

Hind Kabawat, Senior Researcher for the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution (CRDC), brought the students to meet and talk with Syrian refugee students.

"We wanted to try to learn about the Syrian conflict," Ms. Kabawat said. "Since I am Syrian and this is a very close subject to my heart."

The delegation brought sports equipment and school supplies for the children, and engaged with them through play. The graduate students said they appreciated the opportunity to see for themselves the effects of the Syrian conflict.

"I hope that when I go home … I can spread that message, what I've learned here," said Taylor Rockoff, graduate student in international development, American University.

Zakat Foundation of America currently sponsors two primary schools for Syrian refugee children in Gaziantep. The children's uniforms, supplies and transportation are all paid for by Zakat Foundation of America donors whose generosity also pays the salaries of the Syrian teachers who provide instruction.
