Gaza’s Youth Mental Health Promotion

Around 51% of Gaza’s children and 31% of its adults suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to the Gaza Community Mental Health Program (GCMHP). In response, Zakat Foundation of America and Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) worked together to organize a summer camp featuring interactive workshops for Gaza’s Youth Mental Health Promotion.

The weeklong camp attracted over 200 children from all over Gaza and activities included performance art, yoga, drawing, handicraft making, and much more. Mental health specialists associated with the program observed many positive changes within the children’s behavior such as increased active participation, mutual respect, and improved listening skills. Zakat Foundation of America is also currently facilitating reconstruction efforts in Gaza with the Rebuild Gaza campaign.
