Mahejabeen Madarkar is a young doctor in Karnataka, India. She was one of the top students in her medical class but she has something that sets her apart from the others: Dr. Madarkar is disabled and until recently depended on a manual wheelchair for mobility. But now she is moving from place to place with ease on a new electric wheelchair that came as an Eid gift from the generous donors of Zakat Foundation of America.

Dr. Madarkar received her electric wheelchair on August 15 and could not contain her happiness. She said the electric wheelchair is the best gift she has ever received and the people who made this happen, including Zakat Foundation of America and Executive Director, Halil Demir, are in her deepest prayers.

From 2005 to 2011 Dr. Madarkar attended Karnataka Medical College in Hubli, India, where she received her medical degree and graduated third in her class. She is now specializing in dermatology at Father Muller Medical College in Mangalore. Zakat Foundation of America extended its support to Dr. Madarkar and is covering the cost of books and tuition in order for her to complete her specialization. Zakat Foundation of America has also purchased an electric wheelchair for her, to replace her manual wheelchair and make it possible for her to treat patients faster and more easily.

Dr. Madarkar is one of seven children to a father who recently retired and a mother who is a homemaker.
