Educating Youth - Eid Importance

Zakat Foundation of America’s (Zakat Foundation of America) Outreach Coordinator, Abdelhamid Omran, recently visited Furqan Academy in Bolingbrook, Illinois to discuss the importance of Eid al-Adha and the Prophetic practice of Udhiya (Qurbani). Omran spoke with two different student age groups and personalized his own narrative of growing up as a young Muslim-American.

The visit to the academy is just one of many initiatives taken by the Zakat Foundation of America Outreach team to connect with the Muslim-American youth in the Chicagoland area. Omran’s discussion was not only meant to foster insight on Islamic beliefs such as Udhiya (Qurbani) but also motivate the youth to take action and become involved with volunteer opportunities.

“Many of the programs we could not do without the support of these communities, so it’s our way to give back to them, especially the youth,” said Omran. “A lot of the times that can be as simple as being there and talking to them and showing them you’re a person who’s been through things just like them.”
