Recently, Zakat Foundation of America invited local student organizations, such as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA), to the Unity Center at Zakat Foundation of America headquarters to introduce the national campaign for Rebuild Gaza. The campaign, in coordination with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), is currently active in rebuilding damaged or destroyed homes across Gaza.

The highlight of the afternoon was a Skype session with a UNRWA representative from Gaza who is overlooking the relief efforts. The Skype session was an insightful way for the students to see and hear the reality of the situation in Gaza.

Afterwards, roundtable discussions were held where students discussed how their respective organizations could get involved. Abdelhamid Omran, Outreach Coordinator at Zakat Foundation of America, moderated the discussions and also provided toolkits with relevant information that participants can utilize to help further the cause. Omran will also be visiting local university campuses in the coming weeks to share with more people how we can help alleviate the suffering in Gaza.
