Lumberton, N.C. (WPDE) —On Sunday, the Zakat Foundation and the Islamic Center of Lumberton gave out free food, clothes and water to people in the community. They planned to start at 11:30 a.m., but people started showing up before 10 a.m., so they opened the Mosque parking lot and stayed busy all day.

Cars drove up for bread and cases of water. Some got out to be served a hot meal or look through clothes to take home. "As a Muslim that is the main thing is you help the persons who need it," said Murat Kose, with the Zakat Foundation. "And we have a saying in the church 'if one part of the community is hurting and the rest of the community should feel it.' That's what we feel and as you can see that people really feel it."

Everything was donated by the Mosque or the Zakat Foundation.
