Zakat Foundation in Tunisia

Tunisia lies on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, the northernmost country of the African continent. A former French colony, Tunisia emerged as a free republic in 1957, remaining an effective one-party state under the Neo Destour party, which assumed several different names during a half-century long tenure in office. Like most other Cold-War era regimes across the Greater Middle East, the government was swept away in the tide of upheaval that began in 2011. The governing coalition that emerged from the Arab Spring uprisings has, so far, managed to stabilize the country following the unrest of the post-revolutionary period.

In Tunisia, Zakat Foundation of America pursues seasonal giving programs for the Ramadan and Eid holidays, and also has distributed school backpacks for students as well as winter clothes and supplies for vulnerable communities.
