Kamran, a second-generation transactional attorney from a family including seasoned legal advocates and civil servants abroad, serves as our General Counsel to protect the interests of Zakat Foundation and its various stakeholders and strengthen our best practices. After spending five years in the Projects and Infrastructure group at Mayer Brown and three years in the Global Transportation Finance group at Vedder Price advising sponsors, financiers, governments and multilateral development agencies complete international business transactions in over 40 different countries, he went in-house to assist Khalil Center, a Zakat Foundation Project, expand its work nationwide and internationally. Along the way he has advised individuals and businesses in matters of Islamic Finance and other contractual arrangements to be consistent with similar values. Previously, he completed a fellowship at a leading Indian microfinance institution and an internship at a top international Pakistani law firm. He speaks fluent Urdu, with intermediate working knowledge of Punjabi, Arabic and Spanish, and continues to study books of theology, law and ethics towards refining the application of law and ethics in modern business.
